If you decide that Bookwebs are are right web designers for you, this how we work.
Your First Contact
You can contact us by email or by telephone. Give us as much information as you like although the more you can tell us about plans and ideas, the better.
During the initials discussions about your website (by telephone or email), you can expect lots of questions. We have a web design questionnaire for authors to help you plan your site. We can email the questionnaire to you so you can complete it in your own time, or we can go through the questions on the telephone. Once we have a thorough understanding of the scope of your site, we can provide you with a website estimate.
Our estimate is a detailed document which outlines the work we will do to produce a website that meets your needs, and the estimated cost. Our estimate will explain exactly what your site will look like, how many pages there will be, how many photographs will be displayed and whether or not any special functionality is included (blogs, Facebook and Twitter integration, image galleries etc). We will also advise on any optional extras that we think may enhance your site, but it’s entirely up to you whether or not you wish to include these extras (they will add to overall cost of your site). We write in plain english so that it easy for you to understand and if you don’t understand anything, all you need to do is ask. We also state what we we expect from you in terms of content and images, and give a timescale for the completion of the work. Typically it takes four weeks to create an average authors website.
The First Steps
Once the estimate has been agreed, we will make a start on your site. The first stages include:
- Registering a domain name for you (we can give you advice on the best name to choose)
- Organising the right sort of hosting for your website
- Setting up any email addresses that you need
After we have registered your domain name and set up hosting, we create a development site where your site will be created. We will send you the link to the development site so you can see the progress of your site as it grows.
We will also set up a simple, temporary holding page so that you have immediate visibility on the Internet.
Reviewing Your Content
Next we will ask you to send us the draft content for your website. We will review the content and make suggestions on the best way to structure your content so that it is easy for your visitors to find their way around your site. Structuring your content is important because well designed sites will attract more visitors from Google and will also encourage visitors to stay longer on your website.
Designing The Look and Feel Of Your Site
Once we have your content, we can also begin planning the look and feel of your site – known as the design stage . We will ask you to send us links to sites that you like so that we have a good idea of the sort of look and feel you are after. If you have any sketches or drawing of your ideas, we will ask you to send them to us. The length of the design phase depends on how unique your want your design to be.
Programming Your Website
Once we have all your content and you have signed off the design of your site, we will begin the build stage. We will send you pages to review as they are completed and you can review your content in situ and make your final tweaks to the text.
Launching Your Website
When your website is complete, we’ll test it for you on various browsers and ask you to review the content thoroughly. When you are happy with everything we will transfer the site to your domain address and your website will go live for the world to see.
Once your site has been launched, you need never worry about being alone with your site. We include full support, so if you ever have any problems or queries, all you need to do is email.
Updating Your Website
If you have opted for a website with a content editor, you will be able to edit the text and images yourself. All our websites come with editing training videos, manual and a set of instructions to get you started. We fully expect that you will have queries, so if you are not too sure about something, all you need to do is send us an email and we will be in touch.
If you need a structural change to your site, perhaps the addition of a new page or some special functionality, we will be pleased to give you an estimate for the work.
Paid-for Maintenance Service
With the best will in the world, you may find that you do not have the time or the technical aptitude to update your site so that it always looks professional and well maintained. If this applies to you, you can always resort to our paid-for maintenance service. All you need to do is send us a brief and your new content and we will give you an estimated cost for the work.
From year two onwards, if you wish to keep your website live, you will need to renew your hosting and domain name. We will send you a renewal invoice one month before the renewal date. If you wish to cancel our site on receipt of this invoice, you can. If you wish to keep your site live, all you need to do is let us know and we will take care of everything for another another year.
