How much does it cost to set up a website?
There is no simple answer to this question. The exact cost of your website will depend on your requirements. When you get in touch, we will discuss your needs and identify roughly how many pages you'll need, what special functionilty you'lll need (such as the ability to sell your work online) what photographs are required and the level of graphic design work needed. Based on this, we will draw up an estimate.
However, we appreciate that you might want some idea before getting in touch. Below are some typical costs:
One-page 'starter' website including domain name, email address and hosting - from £99.
A simple 'business card' type site consisting of one page with one or two graphics. This package includes a domain name of your choice, an email address and hosting for one year.
Six-page websites - from £395.
A simple website consisting of up to five pages, designed to your requirements. Each page will have a customised header, a content area, a side bar and a footer area.
For writers' groups website design, there is a cost for a basic three page set up - e.g. a home page, an events page and a list of writers page. Then there is an additional cost per showcase page per writer. A website for say ten writers would cost in the region of £500-£700.
Ongoing costs of owning a website
The first year of hosting is free with all our websites. You will need to pay your hosting fee from year two onwards. This fee will be in the region of £48 to £109 per year depending on the type of site and whether or not you have a Content Management System attached.
You will also need to renew your domain. A .co.uk name is approximately £10 per year and a .com name is approximately £15 per year.
Content Management Systems
If you are technically able, you can have a Content Managment System (CMS) attached to your site which will enable you to update the content of your site. These can range from a single 'editable' 'News' page to a full
CMS which allows you to add new pages as well as edit existing content.
